    Christmas gift (to myself)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating this holiday! In Belgium, we don’t have this holiday on our calendar. However, this means the month of November is almost over and it is time for the non-Grinches to start thinking about the next holiday, Christmas or Hanukkah. Some of you want to count down to this holiday with an Advent calendar, and if you want the start down to begin on December 1st you will have to order today or tomorrow at the latest. I got a reminder from The Body Shop (https://www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/gifts/beauty-advent-calendars/c/c00259) in an email this morning. So, I’m publishing this blog just in the nick of time, despite having…

    2021 Wrapped

The title for this blog is inspired by my Spotify-wrapped playlists, they are not that accurate as I also listened to some musicals (especially Notre Dame de Paris in Dutch) on Youtube. No surprise that Broadway is Number 1, followed by some Dutch Cabaret (Kleinkunst), West End, and Pop music (especially TOP 50). My most 5 played numbers come from 2 albums: Jersey Boys – Broadway cast A Spoonful of Stiles & Drew However going on the top 5 artists, these were not the only musical albums I listened to. Because next to Franky Valli and the cast of Jersey Boys, this top 5 is completed by: Matthew Morrison &…

    Hello September

Last week college courses started back up and each year I’m wishing I’m being one of those students going back. I don’t think I would thrive in a standard in-person classroom with freshmen right out of high school, so I would opt for evening or even fully online classes with some older students. However, while I’m still interested in many fields of study, from getting my Masters in Tourism, studying law, or (art) history to English language & literature there are study and carrier choices that don’t fit my personality. As an introvert I dread making phone calls to strangers, interviewing someone (even a family member), or working in a…

    Welcome back!

Welcome back to my blog everyone. I wanted to get back on track with this blog at different moments in time but didn’t feel I had enough material to keep it going after the one idea was put out there.I wrote this blog over a week ago so on top of finding ideas I also need to keep myself accountable to post them. Hence the publishing schedule may seem a bit random at times, while I figure out a rhythm for my posts. Let’s catch up on what you all missed from my life in 2020. This isn’t much as the longer I’m working from home and limiting my social…

    Goodbye July, Hello Augustus

Another month has gone by, and as I haven’t posted in the meantime let me catch you up. Well last month didn’t start out that well. Not only was the weather mostly spring like after a really good last week of June. I also caught a cold from my dad. In the beginning this cold was quit severe and as corona is not yet over the anxiety took over a bit. Never had a fever, so it probably was just a cold. However I made sure I didn’t go out unnecessary and I also ordered some groceries to be delivered. One of the groceries were a fresh fruit & vegetable…

    My Spotify listens

How is it that another month passed by. Physically I enter this new month a little lighter than the last but not much. The mental clarity and lightness varies day per day. Trying to keep it as positive as I can. But there is still a factor of job insecurity. And while I invited myself in my parents and sisters “bubble”, the uncertainty of when we can travel to the other side of the country (or our neighboring countries) for some beach or nature walks is weighing hard on certain days. One of the ways I try to stay positive is by not listening to the radio, I didn’t encounter…

    Virtual Escape rooms

Escape rooms can be a fun day out with family of friends. Picking the date when everyone is available, or in my case finding friends to go with, can be a challenge. Off course in this time of social distancing escape rooms are closed. But there are boxes that you can order to play one at home, or there are virtual escape rooms to discovered. This last one is just what I did last weekend. The first one I saw in a Facebook message was a Harry Potter themed one.  It is created by a librarian at Peters Township Public Library in McMurray, PA. Except for having to google a…

    Birthday in Covid19 lockdown

On March 29th I celebrated my 40th birthday. It was a birthday that before the Covid 19 pandemic was already weighing on me in terms of what have I achieved already and what I have to show for it. However the celebrations wouldn’t be any different than any other birthday. For about 10 years now it is tradition that I will go and watch a musical by myself. Sometimes I make a weekend out of in and sometimes it is just for one day and the other I will eat birthday cake with my family. This year it would have been a 4 day weekend at the beach town of…
