2023 Goals
If you saw my Instagram post (@kate_shabitat) you may have seen that my New Year didn’t quite start as I wanted it to. Due to some kind of allergy, my eyes were swollen and I had a rash. Because of the swollen eyes, I had to rest my eyes and keep my screen time limited. As my word of the year is “Health” this was quite inconvenient, but on the other hand, it did emphasize the importance of it again.
Not only physical health but also mental, financial, and on another level also see that my household stays in shape.
However, I will need to make sure I don’t live only in my head and give myself a kick in the behind once in a while to actually go outside our clean-up. I already finished 1 fiction book this year, but I will certainly start “the 5 second rule” by Mel Robbins and hope I can adapt some of what I read in real life.
You may be curious about what I decided about studying at the Open University. Well, I still want to get my bachelor’s in History from the OU and my ultimate dream after that is to study English and the progressive master’s degree program in Literary Editing and Publishing at USC in Los Angeles. I’m going to save some money first and start the OU degree in September. The progressive master’s degree will only be possible if I win the lottery. But I am manifesting it and putting it in writing for the world to see. However not sure how that will work as I’m a “Generator” in Human Design and even confused about how to be a “Generator” as an Enneagram type 5 wing 6. Hence apart from that Mel Robbins’s book I will certainly be looking for a good book, or podcast about Human Design and the Enneagram as part of my personal development. Before September I will certainly continue to earn some badges and follow other free courses at OU OpenLearn. Maybe even try my hand at SAT prep from Khan Academy or finally finish “Learning how to Learn” on Coursera.
Apart from personal development and continuous learning, I will try to walk as much as possible, not only for my mental health but also for my physical health. The goal of walking 1010 miles a year wasn’t reached in 2020, so we are trying to smash it this year. Last year’s word was “Steady”. However, I took it a little too slow and steady so in the end nothing was accomplished. This year I also don’t want to start clean eating and exercising at the same time, as this may lead to overwhelm and quick burnout. Another way trying to avoid overwhelm is journalling. I’m using the Happy Planner Fitness journal, but so far I haven’t decorated with stickers much. I also purchased my first digital daily Passion Planner. As I’m using my Fitness journal to keep expenses, a food diary, and some basic to-do lists, I haven’t found a good purpose yet for the daily planner. But I love how the roadmap (blog picture) turned out, even though it isn’t the exact 3 to 5-year vision that it is destined to be.
Do you set New Year’s resolutions or New Year’s goals and how do you plan to keep or reach them? What books for personal development or growth do you recommend?
