International Literacy Day
This post was to go up on, or before September 8th for “International Literacy Day”. How many to do-lists I write, not all of these things get done. This is the area in my life where my “rebel” tendency as Gretchen Rubin describes in her book “the four tendencies” (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33566873-the-four-tendencies?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=Ep8j4HirOo&rank=1) is really pronounced.
I don’t know if there is a relation between this tendency and the enneagram type 5, but that’s were books come in. For me books can be as much an escape as ways to gain information. However being able (to learn) to read is such a valuable skill, it doesn’t only help you to navigate in an unknown environment but also to communicate with other people. In this era of technology knowing how to read may be not enough to get further in your life and your career if you have limited computer skills. And knowing your way around a computer or tablet can give you access to fun and useful apps to learn how to read and write in your own language or even learn a foreign language.
Being literate doesn’t only get you more chances at employment, but can also have effect on your health and the participation in decision making of your region or country.
One of the carrier options I toyed with in case I was out of a job due to the COVID crisis was teaching. Although I never figured out which grades I would want to teach. At the moment I think I would like grades 1 to 3 best. But I would like to give a shout-out to all teachers out there, whichever grade or classes they teach because together with health care and other essential workers you are all heroes.
To honor this day I integrated it in my planner layout of this week.
It is been a while that I shared some books that I read with you. In between reading these books I also read romance novels from Harlequin and Carina Press.
- When we were brave – Suzanne Kelman https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48922176-when-we-were-brave?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=4XvMKo3GdP&rank=3
- The spitfire girls – Soraya M. Lane https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41957289-the-spitfire-girls?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=xZgTjBqsGH&rank=1
- Chateau of secrets – Melanie Dobson https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18143963-chateau-of-secrets?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=fWn3LKSkbI&rank=1
These read very fluent and I finished them really quickly. One that I don’t know if I want to recommend or not is:
- Resistance women – Jennifer Chiaverini https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39937617-resistance-women?ac=1&from_search=true&qid=nwvseiNMwd&rank=2
This book spans a lot of years and for me it took a long time to really get in the story. But knowing that it is partially based on real life people made me see the book in another light.
Next week I finally have my “summer” holiday and as temperature forecast for next week are between 26° and 30°C on Monday and Tuesday, my planner set-up is everything but fall like. Every time I sit down with my planner gear I’m like a kid in a candy store. The color scheme for this week looks a bit over the top at the moment. But will probably grow on me when I’m using it next week.
No concrete plans for my first week of vacation, I have 2 in total. If I did something fun or interesting (to me) I will probably blog about it.
If you have staycation tips or ideas feel free to share.
