    World book day 2022

Part of today’s blog was planned for the week of February 14th as that Monday was International book giving day. However, I’ve been in doubt to effectively publish as not sure if it would turn out as a book recommendation. But as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and today is World book day (https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-book-day/), I’m sharing all World War II novels I read in February. I started with Flying Angels from Danielle Steel. In this book, we follow 4 American nurses and 2 English nurses in the Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron. The subject seemed very interesting and promising. However, the execution could have been better for me.…

    Pancake day

Our Belgian pancake day always falls on February 2nd, together with Candlemas, on the one hand, one can say I’m a bit late with this blog. On the other hand, USA national pancake day is only March 1st, so I’m still on time. The tradition of pancakes on Candlemas stems from a special kind of biscuits eaten on February 2nd when farmhands were hired for jobs (they could only change jobs or be hired on 2 dates in the year, February 2nd or November 11th). Later these biscuits evolved into pancakes, which with their round form and yellow color resemble the sun and symbolize the lengthening of the days. It is…

    Happy New Year!

January is almost over, but as this is my first blog this year, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you had a good start to the year. I need to work on a couple of my resolutions and goals, but trying my best every day. One of these goals is of course this blog. Thanks to the topic calendar from OM Collective (www.omcollective.com) I had a blog post planned for each of the previous weeks of January.  It seems, however, that I wasn’t that invested in the actual topics I selected. For the first week of January, I wanted to share some mocktail recipes…

    2021 Wrapped

The title for this blog is inspired by my Spotify-wrapped playlists, they are not that accurate as I also listened to some musicals (especially Notre Dame de Paris in Dutch) on Youtube. No surprise that Broadway is Number 1, followed by some Dutch Cabaret (Kleinkunst), West End, and Pop music (especially TOP 50). My most 5 played numbers come from 2 albums: Jersey Boys – Broadway cast A Spoonful of Stiles & Drew However going on the top 5 artists, these were not the only musical albums I listened to. Because next to Franky Valli and the cast of Jersey Boys, this top 5 is completed by: Matthew Morrison &…

    Merry Christmas

If you browsed my blog, you know I’m a big fan of Waterdrop. With all the new and temporary flavors, as well as all the bottles and accessories, my wallet likes it a bit less. However, I saw an unboxing of last year’s advent calendar and purchased the advent calendars this year. Yes, you read it correctly plural, due to FOMO I couldn’t decide between the medium and large size. At the time of purchase, you got the small size free of charge with your purchase. The small one contains different flavor drops. I was team impatient so all doors were already open as soon as it was delivered, hence…

    WWII reads: December

Since my last blog, I read some romance novels but I always return to some WWII reads as well, certainly when the romance becomes a bit too cheesy and makes me a bit melancholic. The first weekend of December I picked “The keeper of happy endings” by Barbara Davis. (https://www.amazon.com/Keeper-Happy-Endings-Barbara-Davis-ebook/dp/B08X48G5VL/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2K42FJD1V5HL7&keywords=barbara+davis+kindle&qid=1639512956&sprefix=barbara+dav%2Caps%2C250&sr=8-7)In this book, we meet Aurora (Rory) whose fiance Hux went missing during a mission with Doctors Without Borders. Rory is trying to function in daily life and trying to be good enough for her mother. However, in appeasing her mother, she might lose herself. So when one day when she passes an empty building she senses that this might be…

    Deliciou review

Sinterklaas, or Saint Nicholas, returned to Spain after bringing some chocolate and spiced shortcrust biscuit and toys for the kids. However, I usually buy most things during the year that there is nothing left to put on the list for Sinterklaas or Santa later in the month. One of those impromptu buys was done around the same time I made my first Waterdrop purchase. After seeing it on my Instagram, I purchased Deliciou spices (https://eu.deliciou.com/). I went all out and purchased almost all of their flavors, not knowing how they would taste.  They have all kinds of bacon flavors, which I find great, in a vegetable egg scramble or combined with…

    Trip to Paris

Despite my love for planners and stationery, I failed to plan for this week’s blog that I wanted to dedicate to Remembrance (Sun)day. Well, I did watch “In Vlaamse Velden” on Netflix. It is a series from a couple of years ago that I hadn’t seen when it aired on TV and that follows the lives of a doctor’s family during World War I. So if this blog isn’t about Remembrance day, let me tell you about my trip to Paris from a little over a month ago. This trip already started with some anxiety as the hotel I was supposed to stay at sent me an email two days…

Book recommendations: WWII reads part 3

Unfortunately, my posting schedule has been bungled up again. So thank you for sticking with me until I finally will figure this blog writing out. I probably should write more drafts and then clean them up when I need and want to publish them, instead of keeping these ideas in my head. A while ago I read both: The girl from Venice by Siobhan Daiko: https://www.amazon.com/Girl-Venice-Girls-Italian-Resistance-ebook/dp/B093SRRM5D/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2Z05AIS8JY9H1&keywords=the+girl+from+venice+siobhan&qid=1636135553&sprefix=the+girl+from+veni%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-1 The things we leave unfinished by Rebecca Yarros: https://www.amazon.com/Things-We-Leave-Unfinished-ebook/dp/B087VXZYMM/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2TCU0LXYKV1ML&keywords=the+things+we+leave+unfinished+by+rebecca+yarros&qid=1636135689&sprefix=the+things+we+le%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-1 Both are about a (great)granddaughter who learns more about what their (great)grandmother did or experienced during WWII. I don’t want to give away too much of the story, but you can find more on Goodreads or Amazon…

    No soda challenge with Waterdrop

No this is no fancy cocktail and actually, it is ordinary water, just with some flavor. At the beginning of July, I started seeing these advertisements for waterdrop® (https://en.waterdrop.com/pages/what-is-waterdrop) everywhere on my social media. I was slacking a bit in the water drinking department and barely got 1 liter in at that time and was upping the rest of my fluid intake with about the same amount of Cola Zero. So the advertising did its job and I purchased a big 1l steel bottle, a 600ml steel bottle, and the starter set with 6 “cold” flavors. Even before they arrived I placed a second order with another 500ml steel bottle…
